LAREDO, TEXAS: Jose Hernandez is the coolest kid on campus with his ATC-converted Chevrolet Silverado. A student at Texas A&M International University, Jose is studying to be a computer engineer while cruising in his dark blue Z71 during his free time.

“Some of my hobbies are hanging out with friends and going to the movies, out to eat, and to the mall,” Hernandez said. “All made possible with my ATC truck.”

Options for wheelchair-accessible vehicles are often limited. Having only a wheelchair ramp-equipped minivan as an alternative, Jose’s decision to choose an ATC pickup truck was a no-brainer.

“My favorite [aspect of the conversion is that] it’s a truck not a van, and the way the conversion is done seamlessly,” Hernandez said. “And, can’t forget about the gull-wing [door].”

Jose speaks highly of the freedom he has gained since owning an ATC.

“My vehicle improves my everyday life by making it easier to go anywhere from city streets to off-road,” Hernandez said.

Customers often chose ATC for the all-terrain capabilities of an SUV or pickup truck. Many wheelchair users have active lifestyles or live in rough terrain; conditions that do not bode well for a minivan.”

It’s more than just a vehicle; it’s independence,” Hernandez said.
